Review and Giveaway: Calls of the Untamed - Time to Call Wolf by Eri Nelson

REVIEW:

To avoid any confusion, I must say that Calls of the Untamed contains the first three books, The Call From Within, Heated Calls From Change, Double Call From Desire plus the fourth book, Time to Call Wolf, and a brief preview of what I will call Volume 5, Ink. I say what I will call because if the first three books continue the numbering of the chapters, Ink begins with Chapter 1, and nothing of what Eri Nelson does is accidental. It remains to be seen if it is just a decision regarding the organization of the new edition or a turnaround is set for us. Anyway, Ink will take over and continue our supernatural story.

Rereading my review for the first three books (please, see HERE) I wondered what I might add, without repeating myself, to emphasize how much I love this series.

I was telling you that each volume brings new characters and new action plans that will weave into a general framework in which, although important and definitely present, romance will cede to the action the VIP position. Time to Call Wolf will keep this feature, will enhance it and expand it at a much broader level, because as we already know, a lot more supernatural species are involved in the fight for survival. Because everything in Time to Call Wolf will be a fray. A fight for survival of the individual, of the couple, clan and species, in which the death not only circling, but it takes its toll, a battle in which the bonds or alliances change, in which the decisions surprise and create new situations that our characters must reconciled with... or try to cope. As an impartial observer, the author will give us the point of view of all the characters, but without diminish the impact of their actions and without deprive the reader of the pleasure of feeling and perceiving himself their experiences.

Even if the action from Time to Call Wolf runs at an telluric, tangible, real level, the mystic component is not removed, but it gains greater importance. Prophecies forgotten by some, the personification of the Moon, her acceptance (by free will or by force) as spiritual leader acquires new meanings that each, character or reader, will perceive them differently. Meanings that will provide opportunities, motivations, solutions or denouements in which the HEA, as the stories of the past tell us, is not mandatory. The way in which Eri Nelson narrates, the way in which she inserts the references to ancient myths or how she creates new ones and ... their solemnity gives extra beauty to the story. Doing so, she revitalized my curiosity and my appetite for folklore and for the universal mythology, especially for the North American one.

Regarding Eri Nelson's style, I must say that I like it. It is different, sometimes with a melodicity and a rhythm that made me remember the ancient epic tales.

Time to Call Wolf successfully continues the Dearhart Clan Series that certainly is a fresh breeze, a welcome change in our day paranormal literature genre that seems seized by the erotic romance. If that means an "unorthodox writer" and an "unusual writing style" then that is what I/we need.

Enjoy!
